I decided to list this here because of the maginitude of what occured in this carving. This is something that could potentially occur in any stone sculpture and one has to deal with it, but this was exceptional given the set design and stone I was working with. It took me a long time to recover from this, and ultimately I was lucky that it occured where it did and not another inch or two back.
As the second photo shows I was nearing completion of roughing out the face of the knight when I discovered a flaw that cut directly behind my work.
