1/6th Asuka and Rei Ballgown, EoE Armageddon diorama

I first started the concept for this diorama when I saw Maxjr’s on E2046's excellent builds of these two kits. It occurred to me that if Rei could be made to stand, it would be just incredible. When I finally got Rei and cut her apart and positioned her, I realized they could be made to hold hands, and look at each other. This excited me a lot for this concept, and I kind of wondered if the original sculptor had actually intended this or what? Anyway I had to work on other things for a while, and getting back to them, it took me a lot more effort than I expected originally to make Rei a good standing figure that looked proper.

Her skirt no longer would fit her when she stood, so I had to heat warp it, and redo the entire front part. I heat shaped and resculpted basically the entire thing. Her legs were another difficulty, because of Asuka’s long legs, it was quite a feat to get her to stand next to her on the same level and not look freakish. I redid her legs and everything at least 3 or 4 times, and still think it could use a little improvement.

Anyway, I’m a big fan of end of evangelion, and have watched it tons of times. It occurred to me that these two could be made into a diorama, relating to that story. Specifically I thought that the story would be centered around Rei after she declares to Shinji’s father, “I’m not your puppet”. I was thinking, in part she disobeyed him because she wanted to go save Asuka and Shinji, so part of her soul goes to rescue and bring Asuka to Shinji who has died trying to save Nerv. She did this instead of bringing Shinji’s father to his dead wife. That they’re in ballgowns would represent that they’d be going to a last party, or the beauty of their souls, so to speak.

If you notice in EoE when the people loose thier at fields, they explode and instead of spurting blood they spurt an orange residue, which is what the base is intending to show. The red substance I believe was a material used to secure locations and so isn't actually blood.
